A notice lists two remaining days for income tax return assistance at the post office with a deputy collector of internal revenue. Also reported are local education board plans, a child with chicken pox, and various regional items from Meadville to Warren including taxation, weather, and WPA activities.
W L Armitage is re elected president of Warren Electric Cooperative at a Pittsfield board meeting. W O Bindley from Hear Lake is vice president L D Whiteley from Spring Creek is secretary and H A Manley from West Spring Creek is treasurer. Directors discussed the 1941 program including a 200 mile rural lines project extending into Venango County and planned to contact the REA for fund status for a 120 mile project. Aimed to fill gaps in the original plan and add lines near Hemlock and Lander. A separate note mentions a proposed $3 million state appropriation for free school lunches and milk for needy pupils to be financed by local boards with state reimbursement.
Willli P. Heislmann a 37 year old metallurgist at Erie General Electric died at Hamot hospital from shock after falling into a tank of rust proofing chemicals in the refrigerator building. He lived at 217 Chautauqua Blvd and left eight children. Coroner Dr Strable said death was caused by shock from burns to more than one third of his body. He slipped on a narrow ledge while fishing out a box in the rust proofing tank and plunged into six feet of solution before attempting to escape.
An unidentified Black man fatally slashed 60 year old cafe operator Nicholas Pappas in Philadelphia after an incident over nap time at a table. Pappas, father of former Frankford High and Temple football star Chris Pappas, died after hospital treatment. Police pursued the suspect who escaped during the incident.
Henry Crowell 78 former Erie resident died at his summer home in Palenville Wyoming after an illness. Funeral services conducted by Wayne Armin at Schroedner Methodist Church with burial at Lakeside Cemetery. Survivors include wife Olea Sade Crowell two sons Robert and Merle Crowell a daughter Mrs Rod Newer a sister Mrs May Me Cray and other relatives.
Otis Robert Beskin of Spartansburg died Tuesday evening at 10 at the home of Mrs. Grave Miller 19 Plum Street while visiting. He was 1 year, 11 months and 2 days old. Interment will be held at a later date after relatives arrive from away.
Silver Creek authorities resumed blasting the ice jam after a temporary halt when dyne munition ran short. A 300 pound order of explosive was rushed from Buffalo to clear the creek’s roan d channel and resume duty later Tuesday.
