Lieutenant Oldham visited the city to locate a site for a state highway patrol sub station. The station is due within thirty days and will be housed within city limits on Route 6 with at least three patrolmen and an office. Prospective locations have been reviewed but a final site is not yet chosen.
United Press reports a North China showdown looms as Japanese military officials press a set of demands on Gen Sung Cheh-yaun, aiming to carve an autonomous North China state aligned with Manchukuo. Incidents near Fengtai illustrate rising tensions between Chinese and Japanese forces ahead of possible action.
Dayton Dean, a stocky triggerman for the Black Legion, pleaded guilty to first degree murder and kidnapping in the Poole case. He testified before Circuit Court Judge Joseph Moynihan, aiding the state’s case as it prepares to try 12 to 14 other men for the slaying and kidnapping that occurred on May 13.

Preliminary steps for a generating plant to supply power to Northwestern Co-Operative Rural Electrification Association members were approved by over 100 Beaverdam unit members in a Beaverdam M E church meeting. Officials seek cheaper rural power by building the plant and are considering three central-location sites. Engineers and supervisors outlined the district program while Dick Smith noted the Meadville office. About $100,000 of a $420,000 request has been allotted, with 124 miles of lines to be laid soon and the remaining 76 miles planned.
Attorney Lincoln Cohen, counsel for 81-year-old Garland resident John Polens, won a three month reprieve from the electric chair after Supreme Court Justice James B. Drew signed a stay order. A similar stay was granted for 20-year-old Joe Senauskas by a Philadelphia Supreme Court ruling. Both lawyers seek permission to withdraw guilty pleas as proceedings remain stayed in Warren County prison until further notice.

Chicago police say a seven year old boy may have killed his mother Mia Florence Thompson. Capt. William O'Brien noted the child had written to his grandmother years earlier that he did not like his mother and wanted to live with his paternal grandparents. The boy awoke to find his mother bludgeoned and returned to the scene after an apparent alarm, later dressing in a burgundy shirt and white linen suit before reporting the incident.
A United Press survey shows the window for third party qualification has closed in California Kansas Louisiana Michigan New Jersey Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Some candidates may run as Independents or gain party sponsorship. others must rely on voters to scratch names or provide petition support in the remaining states.
Coroner David Lincoln of Jamestown investigates the death of Mrs Verne Doolittle of Clymer R D 2 who was killed when her car was hit by a Quality Cash Stores truck owned by Jamestown and driven by L J Park. She died instantly from a fractured skull. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 00 pm at Lowville Methodist Church after prayers. burial at Lowville.
Oslo dispatch reports explorer Sir Hubert Wilkins aboard the Wyatt Earp remained safe as weather delays hindered the expedition. His wife, alarmed by the search, appealed to President Roosevelt for cooperation in locating the Stavenger ord expedition vessel.
In Ogden Utah June a brutal attack left Adam Snyder 62 and Mable Snyder 60 dead while Grace Mortensen 42 and Emmy Scott Roge 42 were unconscious. Police said the assailant was 17-year-old George Mortensen the stepfather. The slayings involved an ax and blunt force as a young deaf six-year-old girl witnessed the carnage.
Golden Rule Chin last night backed Corry as the site for the 1937 Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carriers Association state convention. Speaker M. Shuss outlined housing, feeding, and transport needs for about six hundred delegates over three days, noting the expected economic benefit to Corry. A committee of Spiesman, Lombard, and Wilcox was named to prepare pamphlets for the campaign. This year’s meeting is at Bedford around July 20.
Washington reports revived today that James A. Farley may be granted a leave of absence as postmaster general. Farley had earlier signaled plans to devote himself to leading the Democratic national committee, a post he was re elected to in Philadelphia last January.
Richard Gallagher and Melvin Holand began ten day sentences in Erie city prison after pleading guilty to violating a city ordinance banning firework use and sale of explosives. They were fined ten dollars and costs, or ten days in jail, unable to pay. Police say they discharged explosives on North Center Street near Ryandollin Street shortly before 2 am, arrested by Patrolman Ross Mead. This marks the second such arrest in the city as other youths were fined for July 4th cracker fire on South Center Street. Police vow strict enforcement of the ordinance.

Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, deposed and exiled, addressed the League of Nations assembly in Amharic accusing France of violating the covenant and aiding Italy through the Hoare-Laval plan. He spoke seriously, wearing a white colonial suit under a black mantle, and expressed concern over Ethiopia’s fate.
