Investigations into the accidental drownings closed as authorities report Diana Nichols 12 Lowville died saving her sister Dora and friend Gail Stanko 11. Diana and Gail were aided by a truck driver who helped reach shore. Diana was pronounced dead at the scene after firemen and coroner efforts. Diana Nichols survived by five sisters. In Windsor Ohio, 11 year old Lee Stanley Thomas Jr. drowned during a visit to Windsor Mills Dam.
A weekend of mishaps left five people with injuries, four treated and released from Corry Memorial Hospital emergency room, one admitted. Janet Raymond, 11, was admitted for a left wrist injury from a horse fall. Archie Willis, 40, sustained bruises from a car door while pushing a vehicle. John Lacey, 53, cut left hand after a tractor fall. Todd Carbaugh, 4, lacerated foot while swimming. Mary Eastman, 17, lacerated toe after foot caught in a can door.
