Swiss civil court in Sarnen granted Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton a divorce on grounds of mutual incompatibility. Taylor was present with lawyers. Burton absent with medical excuse. Custody awarded to Taylor of their 11 year old adopted daughter Maria. Financial terms not announced.
John Smith, 27, is wheeled into Kings County Hospital after a gunshot wound to the chest amid a murder case. Police say Smith is the prime suspect in Lt. Henry Schmiemann's killing, noting Schmiemann fired at his killer before being shot. Doctors say the chest bullet poses no threat and removal would hinder evidence collection.
Meadville Crawford County Domestic Relations Court sees the equal rights amendment sparking three pending cases where husbands or ex husbands sue for non support against wives.
