Jamestown Negro Denies Charges in Self Defense Claim
John Champion a 33 year old Jamestown man testified in Supreme Court that he shot Percy Hatchett in self defense. Eyewitness testimony from Chat pilon and Talmadge Thomas challenged his account as prosecutors sought to prove the murder. The defense moved to dismiss the indictment but was denied as spectators watched the proceedings.
