The Columbus Township Supervisors estimate Saturday night’s storm caused about 25000 in damage. Nine concrete and iron bridges were wiped out, hundreds of sluices and culverts washed away, and roads rendered impassable on the hilly terrain. They ask taxpayers to aid in barricading and lighting washouts during rebuilding and seek outside relief.
Keeen internet centers in Elgin present the musical comedy Thy Ministery Wife s New Bonnet by the Ladies Aid Society of Wigio church on Wednesday and Thursday at 8 o clock. Mr and Mrs G R Amy of South Center Street celebrated their golden wedding Saturday June 4 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Home West Washington Street with sixty four guests. Graves of two unpaired members in Pine Grove St Elzapeths and St Thomas cemeteries were decorated by the Stanford Hoge Company at their annual memorial service yesterday. Led by two fire trucks carrying baskets of flowers, the pilgrimage to the cemeteries was made at 10 30 o clock and the graves of all deceased members of the company were decorated.
Captain and Mrs. Pred Reif who led the local Salvation Army corps for two years will depart to Connellsville. A farewell service was held with about seventy friends present as Rev. G H Morgan praised the couple and their work with other churches. Mrs Rugabyty Woyce spent the day in Erie and left this morning.
Miss Alvilla Sackett a longtime Fairview School No 1 teacher, died at Erie's Lia Ol Folks Home at age 60. Funeral services were set for Wednesday at 2 PM conducted by Rev. Roger F. Cressey, with interment in Pine Grove cemetery. Survived by brother Archie R. Sackett of Los Angeles.
The Corry Ice Company began manufacturing artificial ice at its plant north of Franklin after exhausting natural ice supplies. The plant resumed operation this morning and patrons are assured of continued fine product. The Allegheny River’s level declined today after heavy rains raised flood risk, with several towns affected and a flood stage of 32 feet noted.
Harold Hutchinson a 15 year old visiting Tryonville was swept away in the flood churning Oil Creek while swimming with neighborhood youths. Despite swift efforts by companions the body was not recovered and may have traveled miles downstream. He was the son of Elliot Hutchinson and had been living with Mr and Mrs Harris. several brothers and a sister survive.
David Ketner son of Mr and Mrs H C Ketner of this city, ranked high in mental tests but did not meet the medical board vision criterion at Annapolis and will not enter the Naval Academy. He received a courteous thanks for efforts to extend another chance. Mrs Eva B Rich and daughter Miss Wilma Rich return home after visiting Titusville.
