Parker D. Cramer formerly of Clarion and a Corry figure, in a series of test flights with H D Hassell of Rockford Illinois preparing for a hop to Stockholm in July. They traveled from San Antonio to Los Angeles, flying 1260 miles with a 260 gallon fuel load in a Wright Whirlwind powered plane. The trip aims to test the aircraft later used in the Stockholm crossing.
World War veteran Captain James Exton of Rochester New York died after crossing the ocean to his native land. He did not fear death and his fate was told by Clifford Clark of Company I Corry unit who described guardsmen who kept a little girl company on the France trip. The Twenty-eighth Keystone division members are noted, with continued coverage on page four.
Charles Mastern of New Castle, 32, instantly killed when he was thrown from the rear seat of a car near the Mead Avenue bridge in Meadville. He worked in the Erie Railroad shops and the accident is under investigation.
Corry lodge No. 8 of the Order of Moose entertained members and out of town guests at a banquet and dance held at the Hotel Corry last evening. A Warren delegation led by W. c. Dalrymple and others heard an outline of the world purposes of the organization and plans for a series of social functions over the next several months.
Fred H. Sexauer of Auburn was elected president of the Dairymen's League Cooperative Association at the Rochester annual meeting. He succeeds George W. Slocum of Milton, Pa, who did not seek reelection. Other officers were reappointed or elected, including John D. Miller as first vice president and J. D. Beardsley as second vice president, with J. A. Coulter secretary and Chester Young treasurer.
At the Democratic National Convention in Houston tensions over prohibition rise. Norman Mack and Gov. Smith battle dry and wet factions as women drys plan prayer meetings while Gov. Dan Moody may energize supporters. Political maneuvering centers on a strong law enforcement plank.
Kane Pennsylvania June 28 seven persons from Kane were injured when three cars collided on Roosevelt highway near Kane. Cars driven by Mrs Ballard and B F Fidler struck head on and Ballard car was hit from the rear by Charles Carlson. Injured include Evert Lindberg 3 Paul Ballard 82 Marie Brody 37 F Fadler Anna Brody 8 Jack Ballard 2 all residents of Kane.
A blast in Bruges Belgium killed eight people and seriously wounded thirty. The explosion hit a building used to store former enemy shells awaiting destruction. Nearby blocks were shaken as debris tore two children’s legs.
Ralph S. Dewey of Corry Public Schools reports at Minneapolis convention of Rotary International that foreign delegates show strong interest in mutual understanding as a basis for world peace. He notes talks on peace, a 1929 convention site in Dallas and 10 000 in attendance. Dewey visited Hamburg and Amidon in Minneapolis and saw the Cream of Wheat plant.
Firefighters remember fallen members with graveside decoration. Members meet at the First Ward fire station at 10 80 o'clock to travel to cemeteries. Those bringing flowers or cars are urged to participate in the annual observance prepared by the company.
The Leviathan mail bags were found rooted upon arrival in Southampton. Officials believed the robbery occurred before the ship left New York, with a loss estimated in the thousands of dollars and bags containing jewelry. Scotland Yard secured passenger lists and dispatched an inspector while liner officials denied in transit tampering.
The Advisory Board asks the public for a special collection tonight in the business section to help defray Captain and Mrs Reid’s moving expenses from Corry to Connellsville. The farewell honors note Captain Heitman’s sacrifice of salary and the serving of 816 school dinners at 14 cents each. A farewell meeting is set for Sunday at the citadel on East Washington Street.
