Of 62 association members by donation 31 attended the meeting in person and 4 by proxy. In a prior board session directors authorized purchase of four bed scales and supplies for the institution.
President Eisenhower opposes granting any government pension to Alger Hiss. White House aides say legislative ban must be properly drawn and note that agencies want clear law. Press secretary James Hagerty said the president questions why existing law would pay retirement to someone convicted of a felony.

Wayne Skinner a 15 year old boy from South Centar Street stepped on a nail injuring his right foot and was treated at Corry Memorial Hospital. He later stepped on a nail with his left foot and returned to the same hospital for treatment before being released.

A 10 year old armed with a hatchet and rifle went on a three hour rampage near Lewistown Pennsylvania injuring five men before surrendering to a posse. Wounded were John Runk William Bonz Edward Rowaf LeRoy Harshburger and Raymond Rank in stable condition. The youth, Raymond Rank, surrendered after being wounded and was held in Mifflin County prison pending charges.
