Poole, June 23 United Press reports a catastrophic explosion at Holton Treath naval cardite factory near Poole. Eleven workers died and nineteen were injured in the nitroglycerin department, the blast heard up to twenty miles away.
A Harrisburg journal letter urges local adoption of an inhalator for emergencies. Clifton M Howa of the Pennsylvania Electric Co notes the firm owns a modern device and has trained staff ready to operate it. Inhalator use could be arranged via company offices or foreman Clare Johnson and G C Roscoe Dieuring, in case of swimming accidents or other urgent incidents.
Corry will send a large delegation to the Kiwanis Northwest Division gathering at the Comnus Lake Hotel Wednesday evening June 24. The Corry orchestra and song leader will assist with singing. Major Lynn G. Adams, state police superintendent, will address on Crime Prevention. Several Corry members will golf at the Wike Desert before the dinner. The program lists lieutenant governor as toastmaster, prizes to be awarded, and the Star Spangled Banner plus other songs. Mrs Hazel and daughter Kathleen return home after visiting Charlestown and Wheeling.
Judge Jank Wickersham of Dauphin County dismissed Miss Mabel Hamilton's suit to force Governor Pinchot to renew her notary commission and bar him from requiring pledges of support for Pinchot policies. The ruling held no court can mandamus or enjoin the governor, and he need not respond to such actions. The case tested Pinchot's oath requirement for notaries to support administration policies alongside constitutional oaths.

Erie June 23 Frank Girardot manager of the General Adjustment Bureau was arrested on two charges of arson just before 6 p m Monday in connection with two incendiary fires in LeBoeuf and Summit townships He pleaded not guilty at arraignment before Justice Walter Godwin of Wesleyville and posted 10000 bond for a hearing at 7 p m Wednesday Corporal Joseph Schmidt state trooper and Frank Allen National Insurance Underwriters investigator aided the arrest Girardot was accompanied to the magistrate by his wife and attorney Edward Murphy who will defend him at the hearing Wednesday
The 1981 Cory Summer School session began at the Junior High School with enrollment of 110 pupils. The six week program offers morning sessions led by M J Blanden as principal and a staff including Harold G Wolfe May McCormick Eugenia Graft. New York June 23 Bernard e Marcus and Saul Singer officers of the defunct Bank of United States were sentenced to three to six years each for misapplication of funds from the bank's subsidiary. Herbert Singer, son of Saul Singer, received an indeterminate sentence.
Conflicting plans and student employment may force the boys' school band to abandon summer city park concerts. Milan Waller and other local musicians would assist. sponsors planned to cover incidental costs. A decision rests on tonight's rehearsal at the Junior High. first concert hoped for this Saturday.
In St John New Brunswick on June 2 a major blaze destroyed seven docks and many sheds, causing extensive waterfront damage estimated at up to 10 million dollars. A missing person from Hackensack Nebraska was reported, and a ferry express steamer was sunk to guard against spread. Fire swept West St John, destroying ten residences as shipping suffered a severe blow.

Chief Engineer Charles J. Ryder of the Pennsylvania Water and Power Resources Board describes the Pymatuning project as a major eastern water conservation effort between Meadville and Sharon. An appropriation of 1.5 million dollars will fund two dams fifty feet high below the outlet to create an 18 000 acre reservoir spanning twenty eight square miles. The dam will regulate Shenango river flow above Sharon, boosting summer discharge to never fall below 400 cubic feet per second, mitigating floods evident in 1919.
Ralph S. Dewey superintendent of Corry Public Schools will travel to Los Angeles to attend the National Education Association convention opening there. He represents Pennsylvania as a state association delegate and will be away several weeks visiting sights like the Grand Canyon.
