The policy plank supports Federal legislation ensuring the right to work regardless of race or religion. A committee battle over public housing ends with a plank urging Federal aid to states for local slum clearance and low rent housing where private, state, or local options fail. Such items appear in a Journal classifieds note.
The Woman of the Moose Lodge No 1 held an installation at the Moose Club with Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No 88 in attendance. Governor Ralph Chirlousie presided assisted by Donald Gates Andrew Hansen and Harold Jackson. Dinner followed for about 100 guests.
The Kiwanis Club of Corry met at the Hotel Corry with five members present. Ivan Miller of Beaver Dam presented color motion pictures from the Datato industry and Texas citrus plantations, answered questions, and group singing was led by H. Lynn Rice with Mrs. Rice on piano. A brief directors’ meeting followed.
Wayne Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church at Beaverdam hosts a homecoming this Sunday June 27 with 11 am worship led by Mrs J Hall Smith a 3 30 pm sermon by Rev Ray W Driscoll a evening pageant Challenge of the Cross and Driscoll as speaker. Donations and pledges for the new lawn and church improvements will be received and a chicken dinner follows the morning service.
Mrs. Edward Bielawski announces the birth of her daughter yesterday in a ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. Bielawski formerly living in Corry. The newborn adds a new family member to the Bielawski household.
The Eben P. Mason descendants held their 18th annual reunion at Mead Park with a 12 30 roll call. A bountiful picnic dinner followed, then a business meeting elected Doren Mason honorary president, Willson Burlingame vice president, Mrs Lawrence Rismin secretary treasurer, and Mrs W O Burlingham table committee chair. Delegates from Corry Spartansburg Center Ville Eldred Waterford Westfeld Meadville and Marienville attended.
West Spring Creek 4-H Club Girls met at Mrs. Howard Johnson's home with Miss Peggy Kester of Warren directing. Mrs. Johnson instructed sewing as the girls enjoyed a jovial hour and refreshments. The next meeting is July 6 at Mrs. Johnson's home for all Spring Greek ves girls wishing to join.
The Corry Y M C A Auxiliary and guests held a picnic supper at Hillside Shelter in Mezd Park. Forty four people attended with Mrs Ira Miller serving as chairman. The evening featured socializing and a light program.
The double ring wedding of Miss Alle McCarthy and Jerrold Harmelink took place at Haskell Plains Evangelical United Brethren Church on June 13. Rev John D Westley officiated as attendants included Miss Marlon McCarthy as maid of honor and Barbara Harvey as bridesmaid. The couple plans a Canadian and New England honeymoon and will reside in Clymer Mississippi Harmelink a farmer and graduate of Sherman Central School.
Union City IOOF Lodge members will be guests of Jonathan Lodge IOOF on Wednesday evening. The program includes card play and lunch for attendees.
Miss Irene Czech, soon to wed Walter Gronastaj, was honored at a Sunday afternoon bridal shower hosted by Miss Helen Gronostaj and others for 25 guests at 1199 West Wayne Street. Attendees received mint baskets and a shower cake while awards went to several friends.
A Navy Mothers Club meeting at LOQP Hall led by Commander Mrs. Ross Jukes approved plans for two picnics to be held in July. Details on exact times and locations will be announced later. Attendees adjourned to Margaret's for refreshments.
