Criticizes Milk Commission As Ineffective

Northeast state Assemblyman Peter Schaaf told a Northeast-Juniors commerce group that the State Milk Control Commission is ineffective and needs concrete recommendations. His committee, formed in 1900, has heard testimony across the state to determine if changes are needed to make the milk program work better. He argued Pennsylvania dealers buy bulk milk out of state where price controls are not enforced, a problem he says cannot be fixed, and noted coop marketing evades commission oversight, a pointed weakness amid overproduction and underconsumption. Schaaf, a two term legislator, chairs the Joint State Government Affairs Task Force on Milk Control Laws.
