Vandals damaged the totem pole carved by Webelos Den 181 of Wright School and erected in Mead Park. A plaque listing the boys’ names was badly defaced and unreadable. Union City Erie county reports a fatal accident at Canadohta Lake. William Brogdon 23 Edinboro an employee of Davey Tree Expert Co died after a 9 35 foot fall while working a 70 foot tree. The top 35 feet broke off striking a sling and caused the accident. Autopsy ordered to determine cause of death with a final ruling expected later today.
Burglars prowled a Spartansburg dairy on a rural road stealing gasoline from a pickup and draining drums of milk in a dawn burglary. Troopers continued the probe as yard dogs slept through the crime in late Saturday into Sunday.
The First Battle Group Pennsylvania National Guard unit in Corry seeks 20 new recruits or risk losing its full-time member. Three men are in officer candidate schools, including Arthur Steves in Fort Sill Oklahoma. Lt James Nardheig said the unit will recruit locally while two men begin summer camps and attend Indiantown Gap classes for a year.

South Center man Frank Groet was arrested riding a bicycle while intoxicated just before 1 a.m. Officers said he swerved along South Center Street and nearly toppled. He was deemed unfit to ride, jailed, and fined 10 dollars. He will serve 10 days in Erie County jail after a hearing before Alderman Porter Auer.
