Lynn's One Night Equates To Some Player's Full Season

Boston AP Fred Lynn the Red Sox rookie star has shown the mix of talent and power. After choosing baseball over a $38,000 Yankees bonus he blossomed quickly, matching records with a 5 for 6 night in Detroit with three homers and 10 RBIs. He leads the league in RBI and total bases and sits among leaders in homers and batting average. Lynn credits coach Bobby Winkles for steering him toward baseball while recalling rough football days against Sam Cunningham. The 23 year old graduate of Southern Cal rose from Class AA Bristol to Pawtucket and earned All Star honors before joining Boston for 15 games last September, then securing a regular spot this spring.
