Mass Senior Military Exits Near September
More than 200 generals and admirals are expected to retire before September due to a pension impact from a retirement law quirk. Pentagon officials say at least 215 top officers have filed or will file, comprising about one fifth of the nation’s 1,200 senior officers. In 1973 only 93 generals and admirals and 938 colonels and Navy captains retired all year. About 2,300 colonels and captains, of roughly 14,900, are rushing retirement before September for the same reason.
