Sink Leaking Barge To Halt Oil Flow
A barge leaking thousands of gallons of No 2 fuel oil into the upper Mississippi was sunk after the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources ordered the halt. About 64 000 gallons seeped from four compartments after a collision with a wing dam. Oil dispersed in rain formed a thin film 20 miles downstream and killed fish. Ducks feared but not found. Army Corps of Engineers joined cleanup with a vacuum barge.
