Span of Medway bridge collapses near Carthage
June 19. A forty four span of a Medway bridge under construction over Caney River near Carthage buckled and fell into the stream, carrying 15 men. About half were on the span when it fell. most were reported trapped in soft cement. Ambulances and physicians rushed to the scene, but rescue was slow due to wet cement.
