Sorenson, with his father and two companions, said he did not see the child until it ran into his path and he stopped the car as quickly as possible.
Miguel Alvarez of Havana Cuba admitted killing his sweetheart Lourea Jaks in Pottsville Pennsylvania and pleaded with Alderman Hoepatine to sentence him to the electric chair. He said I did it, alderman, send me to the electric chair when arraigned yesterday on the murder charge.
Sergt Clifford Clark of Spring Fresk Pennsylvannia National Guard returned from France as escort for the Pennsylvania Monuments Commission during memorial dedications. On return, Rachel Baton, adopted by the guard after Capt James Haton’s death, drew attention as a seven year old daughter of a veteran and his French wife. A fund of 8000 dollars was raised aboard the George Washington for Haton, who urged giving it to Rachel.
Announcement of U S Radiator Corporation plant reopening in Brida Ivening is welcomed as a revival of optimistic business conditions. J J Desmond reports manager J H Blackmore says operations will resume early next month with preliminary work already under way. City hopes rise for increased capacity and steady employment as the plant prepares to return to full operation.
Corry driver J Harold Anderson of East Bond Street was exonerated by Coroner Hanley in the death of six year old Norman Bernard Stolz who was struck by the car on Wattsburg Erle Road while playing with a toy wheelbarrow. The coroner found Anderson had done all he could to avert the accident and assisted at the scene. Funeral services were held that afternoon at St. Boniface Cemetery with St. Boniface Church pastor officiating.
James E. Vanzandt of Altoona was elevated from vice commander to commander of the Pennsylvania State Encampment of the Veterans' of Foreign Wars at Hartisburg. Mrs. Edele Fritch of Philadelphia was elected auxiliary president. Several officers were named including Reuben Sharp of Kane as senior vice commander and Arthur Morrissey of Philadelphia as junior vice commander. Five thousand veterans paraded this afternoon with the convention, amid protests over trolley pole placement on the new bridge, and calls for continued term insurance, a position on a bonus bill, marking veterans graves, and citizenship rights for Filipinos who served in the armed forces.

Dr W W Graham re elected pathologist and Mrs Lyle Thomas named clerk. Annual stockholders meeting followed with reports and board elections.
The Allegheny division of the Pennsylvania Railroad completed larger eight inch crossing lights at West Smith Street and similar lights were to be installed at Columbus Avenue and North Center Street. Engineers from Pennsylvania and Erie Railroads seek approval to install crossing light systems at Center Street First Avenue and West Wayne Street and to replace crossing watchmen with signalmen. The proposal was shown to City Council amid opposition, especially at Center Street and limb Avenue crossings, and may return for further discussion at Monday evening’s meeting.
Shamokin Borough in Pennsylvania seeks bidders for a $25,000 pond project with a four percent interest rate. Officials weigh increasing the amount and adjusting the rate as investor interest grows, aiming to fund the work.
Kansas City reports a sharp setback for Andrew Mellon at the Republican national convention. Leaders and delegates balked at his choice for vice president and his influence waned as Curtis emerged as the eastern choice, with Cox rejected and Hoover endorsed by Mellon’s camp.
The Titusville district plans its first Holiness Convention for June 1924. June 16 Kennett Missouri reports two breaks in the St Francis river levee flood waters cover about 10 000 acres of Dunklin county farmland forcing 15 000 200 families to seek safety in Kennett as relief and National Guard units rush to shore up levees. The flood endangers 20 000 more acres of cotton and corn as residents gather at Chantelin county fairgrounds under Red Cross tents. Inland, Newport Arkansas braces as Stevens Levee on the White river breaks sending water across a wide area threatening Tupelo Weldon Shoffner and Auvernes.
