One In Five Pot Users Tried Harder Drugs
A London study of teenage reform school girls shows 20 percent of those who tried soft drugs like marijuana progressed to narcotics such as heroin over three years. Authors Noble and Barnes report 20 of 194 former soft drug users advanced to hard drugs by 1970, versus 1 of 100 who had not used soft drugs. The study notes no clear link to crime, linking drug use to social disintegration and parental care.
