Five Years After War Israelis Still On Suez
Cairo reports on the fifth anniversary of the Arab Israeli war finds Israeli troops still occupying the east bank of the Suez Canal as Egyptians feel sad, frustrated, and angry. The Star of David flag appears from Port Tewfik positions while U N observers watch. Egyptian officials question American mediation as Sadat refuses peace talks while Israel maintains its positions and bunkers on Egyptian soil. The piece notes rising tensions and hopes for a peaceful solution fade under ongoing occupation and external support for Israel. In a separate note, nine plastic angels will adorn the roof of a 12th century Suffolk church, a project costing four times the price of the figures.
