Laird backs arms pact with continued U S weapons work
Defense Secretary Melvin Laird told House and Senate Appropriations committees that Congress can approve the Moscow arms limitation accords only if the United States keeps developing and modernizing weapons. He warned that standing still would be a grave mistake and cited BL bomber, Trident submarine, and Minuteman site defenses as ongoing priorities.
