Ration Points Increased on Choice Beef
The Office of Price Administration raises beef ration values by three points for steaks and higher cuts while many lamb, veal, and pork items change less. The move aims to shift consumption toward pork and other meats, with beef shortages growing more acute. Beef slaughter from March to May ran below expectations, while pork receipts exceeded forecasts, leaving armed services short of beef. Four canned fish categories were reclassified and removed from the ration table.
