Word from the War Department says Pie Elmer C. Tripp, a Spring Creek native, suffered slight wounds in fighting with American forces in North Africa. His mother Blanche agipy received the telegram yesterday. He was not listed as missing. Washington conveyed only that the wounds were slight and he is on the road to recovery. Tripp was a member of one of the first contingents to arrive in Africa.
On the Kursk front 300 miles south of Moscow Adolf Hitler again unleashed air power against the Soviet base. Russians claim to have shot down at least 123 of 500 German raiders in what may be the day’s largest aerial tally in the theater. Analysts cite three possible aims: disrupt Soviet summer offensives tied to Allied invasion plans, soften enemy positions, or begin a wider German weather warfare campaign as Mediterranean air power fades.
