Guatemala and Rio Pact: ODECA crisis stalks Central America
Costa Rica may convene a meeting of foreign ministers of ODECA to address the explosive situation created by Red arms shipments to Guatemala. Guatemala, though a member of the broader Organization of American States, has not ratified the Rio Pact. The Caracas conference backed a strong anti Communism resolution, focusing on the threat to sovereignty from the Communist movement. Spanish conquests preceded Pilgrims by about a century in Mexico and the U S Southwest.

Edinboro Murder Witness Details Family Tragedy Local
Edinboro residents heard of a double murder and suicide at a Clark Brothers home in Olean Sunday night. Mary Harrington, 43, was shot in the neck with a 16 gauge shotgun and a later death by self inflicted wound was reported for her husband, John Harrington, 47. Coroner Winlter Taylor issued certificates naming murder and death by own action. Police Chief Earl Smith noted the couple’s 10 year old son and Clara Dietrick, 19, a Edinboro State Teachers College student, as witnesses. Details described a quarrel preceding the shootings with the weapon and bullets identified by coroner Taylor. Police said the girl notified authorities after the first shot and later heard more shots as the events concluded. The report also referenced unrelated school board tax actions and a series of questions from a national quiz on current events.
