FBI official admits role in Minneapolis counterintel tactics
FBI Associate Director Richard G. Held acknowledged Friday he was responsible for disruptive counterintelligence operations in Minneapolis while leading the office there. He refused to admit direct involvement, citing the Senate report detailing five harassment incidents against student protesters from 1962 to 1973. Separately, prosecutors plan a grand jury in New York to consider indictments against FBI personnel for civil rights violations linked to burglaries and related Cointelpro probes.

County ends Civil Defense in Erie County but Corry unit remains
Erie County commissioners scrapped the Civil Defense department and its director Ross Webb along with four Civil Defense staff. The Corry Civil Defense, however, stays intact and on call for emergencies. Corry CD started 26 years ago with county supplies funded by the federal government, not the county. Holcomb, Corry CD executive, notes Corry’s funding is minimal and that the city still allocates about 1,050 annually. The unit has supported searches, water pumping, crowd control at events, Halloween safety, and snowmobile on-call registrations. Despite the cut, Corry’s CD remains active and the on-call status is expected to continue.
