Hijacker Killed By FBI Agent
A man fitting a hijacker profile crashed a Trans World Airlines jet at LaGuardia then hijacked a truck to Kennedy airport with a stewardess hostage. He was fatally shot by FBI agent Kenneth Levin at a corner runway near the airfield. The hostage, Maria Concepcion, 21, survived unhurt as authorities said the decision to shoot was a calculated risk. The gunman, Richard A. Obergfell, 27, a former United mechanic, lived in Clifton New Jersey and had been fired for absenteeism. his motive remained unclear.

Officials with Chautauqua County sheriff's office filed charges of failure to yield right of way against Roger Lane, 56, of Chautauqua. Apollo 15 to Leave Satellite in Moon Orbit
SPACE CENTER Houston AP Apollo 15 will leave an 78 pound satellite in lunar orbit to probe the moon and solar wind for more than a year. Astronauts Scott Irwin Worden plan to eject the minisatellite on Aug 4 as they return to Earth from Cape Kennedy launch. The mailbox shaped satellite carries a particle detector two magnetometers and an S band transponder to measure solar wind electrons and protons and map Earth magnetic field while orbiting the moon.

Erie police filed murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill against Harold L. Land, 35, of Wattsburg, in the death of William G. Thomas 49 found with Land's wife at a Travelodge Inn. Witnesses said Land shot Thomas after discovering the couple. The suspect fled, then fired on pursuers before being arrested by detectives and an off duty officer. A .22 revolver was seized as the suspected weapon.
