Erie Neckwear Firms Shut As NRA Wages Cut Profits
Two Erie neckwear plants, the Erie Neckwear Co. and the Penn Neckwear Co., closed with over 100 workers laid off as NRA wage scales cut profits. Owners offered higher wages and profit sharing, but the NRA rejected the proposals, leaving the plants shut and claims they cannot reopen under code provisions. Workers reportedly prefer current pay to avoid losing their jobs.
