Blue Eye residents celebrate completion of the Roosevelt Highway to Spring Creek road. Derett Thayer, 24, of Kane, was seriously injured Saturday evening near Meadville when struck by an automobile on the wrong side of the road while returning home from Allegheny College. He was taken to Meadville Hospital. the driver assumed responsibility for the accident.
County Commissioner Helen Sehmtatt proposed delaying the annual tax lien sale of unpaid properties until 1933. Treas urer Lawrence Taylor indicated willingness to postpone legally, but several commissioners argued that public notice would cost hundreds and might deprive thousands of dollars in revenue.
United Press reports a 21 year old woman Rose Wasserstein was abducted by two gunmen in New York. She was dumped by the roadside in a thicket near Woodmere and found semi conscious by Ross Mann who rushed her to a hospital. Doctors say her survival chances were slim. Detectives note this is the second known case of a woman abducted for a ride, following the Vivian Gordon murder during a police vice squad probe. Wasserstein, described as quiet and home loving, gave little information during questioning.
Long Beach Calif July 19 A man tentatively identified as Joe Bozeman was found mysteriously shot to death today aboard the luxurious gambling ship Rose Isle anchored outside the 12 mile limit off Long Beach. Bozeman was said to be related to one of the ship's owners Dr Edward Parkus of Long Beach.
Arlene Haight daughter of N L Haight 239 Marion street wed Frank Van Tassel son of Mr and Mrs R Van Tassel 1095 North Center street Monday afternoon at 4 in Westfield. Rev C F Walcott Baptist pastor officiated in the parsonage. Cleo Haight brother of the bride attended. The couple will reside in a newly furnished apartment at 148 Park street after a motor trip to New York City. The bride works at the National Bank and is among Corty’s popular young ladies.
Rutherford Nook July 19 word reached that FF Rasmussen manager of the Incal store of the Printz Company committed suicide there yesterday. He left no near relatives. Rasmussen ran a mayonnaise plant on Pine Street after leaving Printz and was a local representative for the Ef. J. Heinz Co. of Pittsburgh. He had lived in Rutherford for several years. Miss Margaret Richards returned home today from a stay with relatives in Philadelphia.
District Attorney Andrew T Park ordered an immediate grand jury hearing on assault and battery charges against two women. One allegedly confessed to an insurance murder plot as detectives investigate four Munhall deaths. Detectives guard a grave while Coroner McGregor decides on exhumation.
