New furlough ruling hits Corry post office workers
Under a nationwide economy plan, all Corry post office employees except the postmaster, supervisors, and route carriers face a five day unpaid furlough this month. Salaries for exempt workers are cut eight and one third percent. Furloughs must total at least 24 days in the year starting July 1, with limits of five days per month and December off. Father Pleads as Three Sons Draw Prison Terms
An Erie County father pleaded for mercy in court as Judge A P Rossiter sentenced his three married sons to lengthy terms for chicken theft. Waller aged 92, Eugene 28, and Elmer Flor Lasch 20, all of Patea Pa, received varied prison durations. Eugene must serve two to four years in the Western Penitentiary, the oldest faces one year and three months to three years in the Allegheny County Workhouse, and Elmer faces an indeterminate term in the Huntingdon Reformatory. They admitted breaking into four places, stealing 123 chickens and two steers valued at 203 dollars. The father’s plea for mercy contrasted with the court’s firm stance against parole given multiple offenses.
