Demand Soviets Free U. S. Fliers, Little Hope Held
Washington reports little hope remains for freeing two U.S. Air Force officers held in the Soviet Union after the July 1 shoot down of an American reconnaissance plane. The United States formally demanded their release in a note to the Soviet Foreign Ministry. The note says the Soviets rejected claims the aircraft was on a spy mission and cites the prior U2 incident as fueling Cold War tensions.

Five Area Men Held For Mischief $450 Damage
Five men aged 21 to 26 face charges of malicious mischief after a Wattsburg area incident. Robert J. Barton 26 of Union City and Ernest Adams 21 of Corry were arrested. Raymond Coatam 25, Richard H. Buyton pled guilty and was arraigned. Adams pled not guilty and is jailed in Erie County. Warrants for the remaining three remain unserved.
