Marland Runs for Oklahoma Governor and Plans New Deal Programs
Former oil magnate and Democratic nominee Frank McNaughton reports William H. Marland begins applying President Roosevelts New Deal to Oklahoma. He forms ten committees to study state issues and coordinate a planned economy before his inauguration next January. Marland, once a Pittsburgh clerk turned oil industrialist, built a vast empire in Oklahoma, funded art, estates, and social projects, but rapid expansion led to bankruptcy in 1929 as bankers seized control of his company.
