Fire Chief Urges Fight Against Arson in Cleveland
Cleveland Fire Chief William Barry urged public help to stop what he called 1000 deliberately set fires since January 1. A burning six building industrial complex on the East Side caused hundreds of thousands in damage and left three firms housed there idle. An abandoned building two miles north caught fire, spreading to four more structures and causing $8,300 in damage and leaving one family homeless. Barry urged neighborhood cooperation, noting arson problems have doubled this year and persisted from last year.

Opposition to Gettysburg Battlefield Observation Tower
Harrisburg AP. The House adopted by voice vote a resolution urging Gov. Shapp, President Nixon and Congress to halt a 320 foot private observation tower at Gettysburg battlefield. NPS, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, American Legion PA Chapter and Adams County Historical Society oppose it. Owners claim visitors gain a fine battlefield view and would pay for aerial tours. The measure asks action to include the site in the Gettysburg National Military Park Master Plan.
