National Fuel Gas joins a consortium of energy firms hiring Petty Ray Geophysical Division to survey Lake Erie's bottom for hydrocarbon deposits. Houston based vessel RobRay I will visit Erie to conduct seismic work with contractors including five to ten major energy companies. Polk Center faces up to 120 layoffs as budget constraints loom. Erie Man Charged With Attack On Catholic Nun
Police in Erie arrested Daniel C. Harkness, 25, on charges of kidnapping, criminal attempt, and simple assault after an alleged Monday attack on a nun at a convent. Alaska Pipeline Shut Down Over Nitrogen Leak
Anchorage AP report says trans-Alaska oil line halted Monday night after a nitrogen leaking drain plug buried under hard gravel caused a shutdown near Pump Station No 8 at milepost 488. Repair was expected to take 11 to 13 hours with no oil leaked. The oil, already past Fairbanks, would reach Valdez earlier than planned.

Arrest Three In County Jail For Drug Smuggling
