Jamestown attorney Clayton M. Jones Sr and his wife sue the United States in Buffalo federal court for 3238370 claiming a Geological Survey estimate in 1940 misled them. They sold 70 888 shares of Empire State Oil Co stock for 11 218.40 after a forecast of 17 400 barrels per acre, but reserves now cited are far higher.

Erie vice raid nets two women charged with prostitution

Fall From Auto Proves Fatal in Erie
Miss Alice Krieger, 26, of Erie, died at St. Vincent's Hospital from injuries after a fall from the running board of a moving auto on Axn and Mobile streets. Coroner Warren W. Wood ordered an autopsy as police investigate. Krieger, a Grand Academy birth school graduate, was semi conscious before death and had attended a birthday party when she urged air via the running board. Her ride was with Mrs. Marion Nagle, 47, of Erie, who said Krieger insisted on standing on the running board for air.
