Three promotions announced by Erie Railroad involve former freight agents. Elston Bigh, agent since May 16, becomes Olean agent to replace Fay Hill who moves to supervisor of stations at Salamanca. L R Smith rises to freight agent at Salamanca, replacing Hill. A R Smith of Huntingdon Indiana, previously station supervisor, takes a leave of absence and joins the transfers as part of the Handagert era changes effective today.
Pittsfield police report a fatal crash on Route 62 near Warren and Jamestown after a street race between Floyd J. Rex 25 of Pittsfield and Donald Gardner 20 of Stoneham. Rex died when his car hit a telephone pole at high speed. Gardner was arrested on a traffic charge. Rex served in the Air Force in Alaska and leaves a wife, two children, and several relatives.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration releases its annual list naming 38 airports in need of build or upgrade to meet current and future civil aviation needs. Charley Huffman, 2 year old of Corry, charged with the death of his infant daughter, will be represented by court-appointed attorney William E. Pad at a murder hearing before Alderman Cobbett. Huffman, living at 1338 West Pleasant Street, is alleged to have kicked his 1 month old daughter, causing fatal injuries.

The second well is expected to produce about 250,000 cubic feet daily, with potential adjustments if output faces pressure changes or declines.
Ground was broken Wednesday for a new confectionery and grocery store by Eugene Felver on East Main Street near the old Maiyy confectionary. Coroner Yoseph Gayelar reports both died about 18 hours earlier and a .32 caliber pistol is recovered. Ester Fisher Croyle’s daughter discovered the scene upon returning from a two day holiday. The two had been companions for five years amid a strained relationship and recent reconciliation efforts.
