Four people died when a sedan collided head on with a tractor trailer about half a mile north of Stephens City Virginia. Two victims were identified James M. Kirk 20 of McComas West Virginia and Robert Belmane Cole 19 of Colmar Pennsylvania. The other two victims were described as a middle aged woman and a youth between 15 and 20. The truck driver appeared uninjured and did not report to the hospital. Cause of the wreck undetermined. Witnesses said the straight level three lane road had good visibility with no rain.
Five people died when a car crashed into an overpass abutment on the Spokane Valley Freeway in Spokane Washington and burst into flames. State patrol could not identify victims immediately but said three men and two women were aboard. The car was said to have been traveling at least ten miles an hour when it struck the Argonne overpass, blocking the main east west traffic.
Ohio woman Edythe Margaret Klumpp, 41, was sentenced to death for first degree murder in the slaying of Louise Bergen. A six man and six woman jury found her guilty after a trial in Cincinnati. Klumpp admitted burning Bergen’s body and claimed the car shooting was accidental amid a love-triangle and financial disputes with Bergen’s estranged husband William. A 19 year old tree trimmer was electrocuted yesterday in Greensburg when he touched a high voltage power line. The victim, identified as Thomas Fedorehick, died on arrival at County Hospital.
