Her husband Simon and daughter Rodie said agents of New Jersey Attorney General Witentz visited them two days earlier seeking testimony that Mrs Hauptmann was a lavish spender using ten and twenty dollar bills.
In Bessemer Pa at noon Edward Beales 47 of Youngstown Ohio amid an attempted holdup at the Bessemer State Bank two bandits entered the bank and held a revolver on cashier Charles Weltz as assistant cashier V L Maniich rushed from a rear room causing their escape. State police aided by Corporal J F Schmidt pursued the fleeing robber by automobile and blocked routes while Beales was held for investigation.
Harrisburg report says Sue Rep Toph B Baine from Allegheny express optimism about the ripper bill to place the Public Service Commission on an elected basis and fix tenure and salaries. Democratic sponsor believes he has county support though senate likely to oppose. proponents favor seven elected commissioners and reduced salaries, with a shift from gubernatorial appointments.
Jas 31 Pat veh Torpey chief of policy says he investigated Si jal Garlstrom a likely witness for Bruno Richard Hauptmann. He reports the lad worked for Arthur Christiansen in Dunellen and that locals had a good opinion of him. Torpey says, as far as he can tell, the lad was all right.
The Corry Water Company filed tentative schedules with the Public Service Commission proposing an aggregate five percent rate reduction, with some customers seeing up to ten percent cuts. The greatest savings go to middle bracket users and those most affected by the last increase. About 1240 residents will benefit as the plan aims for final approval by March or April.
The Third District assemblyman will address the Corry Grange at the regular meeting Saturday at 8 pm. Assemblyman Van Ams ship is expected to speak on topics of interest to Grangers. A one act play by the Corry dramatic club, directed by Thomas loss, will entertain under the Federal Emergency Relief setup. The Grange hopes for a large attendance with about 20 members expected and no special effort required for males to attend.
