Budget Woes Loom as County Eyes Higher Tax Cap
The board completed the first reading of the 1956 budget with limited cuts and plans deeper economies. A quarter mill, about 37,000, was transferred to the tuberculosis hospital, now leaving five and three quarters mills for general funds, a mill and a quarter for the hospital, and three mills for the institution district. The panel faced potential overall 10 mill tax rise despite salary hikes and high departmental requests. After trimming 10100 from the hospital, to 255000, officials added 4900 to other accounts.
