Washington AP reports Gov. William W. Scranton of Pennsylvania finished distant second in a Young Republican Leadership Training School poll. Barry Goldwater led with 62.7 percent support from 211 young Republicans. Scranton had 5.2 percent.
The Saturn 1 launch to orbit the heaviest satellite was postponed 48 hours after a fueling issue in the first stage. A flange left in a recent test blocked the liquid oxygen feed. crews spent about three hours attempting a fix. NASA planned live network coverage as the race with Russia for space power continued.

At least seven people were injured including a broken leg for a Negro attendee and a policeman with a head injury as police tried to control the scene at Sebs restaurant, a focal point of ongoing protests.

Rexford Southall 22 of Center point caused a minor collision with Merle Jackman 61 of Corry on a Sparta Township road.

An American woman missionary was killed and another wounded in a Mangungu Baptist mission raid in Kwilu province. Rebels led by former Education Minister Pierre Mulele are accused of targeting Christian missions with government pledging emergency measures and troop deployments amid ongoing violence.
