An Allegheny County jury acquitted Abe Zeid of New Kensington on all charges in the Pittsburgh tavern hold up. Sr and Mrs Elmer C Stover Jr and two daughters age 5 and 2 stay with Stover Sr in Centerville while surveying repair options for their fire damaged Sparta area home. Fire started from a wood burning furnace at 10 pm Thursday with Mrs Stover and a neighbor escaping and seeking help. They saved one item, a television, before firefighters arrived.
AP report describes a NAACP and SNCC led protest as United Nations racial discrimination experts visited Atlanta. Demonstrators at the airport and motel carried signs such as Atlanta Needs U.N. Help and Atlanta Gateway to the Segregated South while singing in the rain. U.N. subcommission members from 10 countries observed the civil rights scene, with local leaders welcoming them and stressing the South’s segregation issues.
