Toward Peace With Japan Featured In Twenty Years Ago Item
An excerpt from the Corry Evening Journal recounts 1931 material on postwar peace aims. It notes John Foster Dulles as a key emissary preparing a Tokyo trip and references Hoover and Taft positions on Japanese independence and a peace treaty. The piece discusses Far Eastern Commission talks, veto concerns, and U S declarations about negotiating peace with Japan, alongside Japanese premier Yoshida's views on a separate peace. The column also records local Corry items, dances, and community notices.

Alaska aluminum plant push eyed for Skagway project
A House judiciary subcommittee will study expanding aluminum production and consider the Tyla project near Skagway Alaska. Rep Tollefson and Delegate Bartlett urge inquiry into potential monopolistic trends and a plan to aid Canada. The Tayas hydroelectric scheme could cost about 300 million, yield 750 million pounds yearly, and support a town of up to 40 000, tapping Yukon River headwaters with two tunnels to the Tay a Valley. The Alaska development board says Aluminum Company of America has considered the project since 1947.
