Escape Try Of 4 Prisoners Fails
Four inmates led by forger George Bertrand nearly seized freedom in Dade county jail seizing keys and opening cell doors. About 150 prisoners were enticed to join as the group moved from the 21st to the 9th floor, but the last key to the elevator was missing. Guards were slugged using tools left behind by painters. the plan collapsed around 8 pm with three willing to follow.

Woods on trial for slaying brother in Shaler Township
Pittsburgh, Jan 23. Paul Woods, 26, went on trial today charged with murder by shotgun in the August shooting of his brother Theodore at the suburban Shaler Township home of Mrs Mario Bowman. A pre dawn argument over attention to Mrs Bowman preceded the fatal blast. Theodore was struck in the stomach by a 16 gauge shotgun. Mrs Bowman is separated from her husband. Her three year old child Charlotte Lee was in the house at the time.

Mock bombing drill hits Harrisburg airport amid weather
The Pennsylvania National Guard conducted a simulated bombing at Harrisburg Municipal Airport with defending enemy planes grounded by bad weather.
