Dr Harry R Rhodes of 144 West Main died Saturday evening at Corry Hospital at 11 40. He practiced dentistry here 25 years and had been ill seven months. Born December 23 1898 in Corry he studied at local schools and the University of Pittsburgh. He operated in Erie five years then opened his office on North Center street. He held civic roles including Corry Rotary ex secretary and civic orchestra leader, and belonged to Corry Lodge No 865 F and A M and the Corry Lodge of Biks. He assisted aviation classes at Cay Youngs ville and Jamestown airports and co operated Lawrence Air Work with Matthew Stormes. He led a Civil Air Patrol unit during the war. He is survived by his wife Sylvia a half brother Curtis Rhodes of Buffalo and two daughters Mrs Morris Sonsieel of this city and Mrs Free Steadman of McKeesport. Body was taken to Buffalo for cremation at Forest Lawn Crematory per his wish with Mrs Rhodes and sister Mrs Hilde Mooney of Pittsburgh accompanying the body.
Hollywood veteran Alan Hale, a 29-year film actor and director, died after a virus infection complicated by a liver ailment at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. He had just returned from Helens stom for the Montana premiere and was survived by wife Gretchen and family. Hale starred in early film era roles and later talkies including the Robin Hood films with Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn.

An area driver employed on the Bert Chelsey farm at Findley Lake escaped injury Saturday evening when his Ponting car skidded off the road and overturned near the Wary Fosyar residence by the Findley Lake pond. Federal jury acquitted Preston Tucker and six executives in a $20 million venture to market a rear engine car. The verdict exonerates eight defendants after a three month trial on charges of fraud conspiracy and securities law violations.
