Corry Community Chest directors met yesterday and opposed the Mothers March plan to solicit house to house polio fund contributions. They argued against combining city and county drives and emphasized a single citywide fund campaign while noting an alleged $1,500 potential city contribution to the polio effort.

Hugh Nelson, 26, of West Main Street extension, is to have an 11 oclock hearing before Alderman M. Cobbett on an assault and battery charge. Nelson was arrested yesterday by State Police, arraigned, and pleaded guilty, then committed to Brie County Jail in default of a 3500 bond. Arrangements are being made for his submission to a psychiatrist’s examination.
Police report two cars argued on West Washington street prompting David Apps of 203 York Street to phone a complaint. Apps said his car swerved out of control after increasing speed to pass another vehicle, hit a pile of ice, struck a utility pole and damaged the right rear. He was cited for driving no faster for conditions.
Cairo reports Queen Warrimon gave birth to a son, heir to King Farouk. The infant, Ahmed Fouad, born at 11:30 a m EST, amid national crisis and British-Egyptian tensions in the Suez Zone. King Farouk's wife held by his side at the Abdin Palace. palace sources say mother and child are well.
Erie reports its first traffic fatality of 1950. Louis St. Dennick, 62, of Erie, died last night from injuries after being struck by a car on Buffalo road and Him street while crossing to catch a bus. Donald Scheiwer of Erie was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
San Francisco reports a Republican National Committee poll of 88 members shows Taft leading Eisenhower on the first ballot by 3 to 1 among those surveyed. The results, from 43 who stated positions, indicate Taft with about 43 percent and Eisenhower around 14 percent, with others like Warren and Stassen trailing. The tally suggests Taft holds despite Eisenhower’s national prominence, and most expect the nomination to hinge on several convention ballots rather than a decisive early vote.
A drifting lifeboat from the missing freighter Pennsylvania was sighted about 600 miles off the Washington coast. Rescue efforts were scaled back as the craft drifted in the Pacific. Initial reports hinted two craft were seen, with crew presumed aboard the Pennsylvanian’s hold cargo. SOS signals were sent as the vessel disappeared bow first.
