Four youths electrocuted after criminal schemes at Sing Sing
Four youths, ages 20 to 21, were executed at Sing Sing for the murder of Patrolman James Killion in New York City. Professor Nelson Clark, a Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate, had pleaded that the men’s lives be spared, but Gov. Lehman refused. Clark’s age 60 fellow was serving 15 years for receiving stolen property. The four—Ray Oxley, Newman Raymond, Thomas Gilbride, America Angelini—died in three-minute intervals starting at 1 p.m., the first time four men died in a Sing Sing chair in one evening since 1920. Raymond’s father, a former evangelist, sought to walk to the chair with his son but was denied. The Rev. Peterson and Rev. McCaffrey accompanied the condemned men.

McCord Takes Oath as Erie County Treasurer
Ralph McCord of North East was sworn in as county treasurer at 9 30 Thursday with Judge Miles B. Kitts and President Judge William W. Hunt present. His wife’s sudden appendicitis caused a near postponement, but she was taken to hospital and the oath proceeded as WPA painters worked inside. The office opened after the ceremony though bond timing and banking depository issues had delayed the start. Controller Harvey M. Willis said the problems were not McCord’s fault.
