HRI January 9 Erie. Frank Girardot, Srce Insurance appointrer, was arrested Thursday night on charges of conspiring to defraud Insurance companies. He pleaded guilty when arraigned before Justice of the Peace Walter Gorillin Wesleyville and was released on $5,000 bail for hearing at 10 a m Friday. Chief of Police Charles Briggs Wesleyville made the arrest after District Attorney Mortimer J Graham issued the warrant. Two other warrants in the Sama case were issued for Louis L Kaufman former Erie real estate operator and Harry Black alias Blackie Cornell. Kaufman is in Allegheny county workhouse following a Crawford county arson conviction. Cornell is in the Western penitentiary serving a term on the same charge. They will be arrested at those institutions and later returned here, Graham indicated. The conspiracy charges stem from allegations that the three men used false representations to several insurance companies to obtain about $21,000.
Washington county employees were notified today of a further cut in pay of 12.6 percent. The action affects county workers across departments as authorities work to balance the budget amid ongoing austerity measures.
Erie reporters note widespread speculation over Judge William Hirt for the state Supreme Court vacancy caused by Justice Emory Walling's death. The Erie County Bar Association backs Hirt, with Judge Rossites resigning from the race. The appointee would serve until a judge is elected at the next primary and sworn in for a full term.

George C Weaver, an longtime oil refin er in western Pennsylvania, died in Clarendon. The obituary notes he worked with Clark and Standard Oil, moved to Clarendon Hill fields in the eighties, and had 46 years with Tiona Bea Co. Services were to be held at Ste Clara's Church in Clarendon.
