Critic charges on auto safety costs and price hikes
The critic urged the National Traffic Safety Agency to speed up cost pinpointing to counter the industry’s propaganda. Spokesmen for four major manufacturers declined comment. He noted car prices rose about 120 dollars last September and that GM proposed a 61 dollar increase last December 27 to adviser Gardner Ackley. The second GM rise was cut to 23 dollars, other makers followed the lead, and President Johnson reportedly intervened.
