Corry Area High School seniors James Bennink receives a $25 Keystone Farmer Award from C. Conrad Monroe of the Chamber of Commerce to help attend the State Farm Show. President Johnson unveiled a surprise budget cut to 97.0 billion and announced a 25 percent reduction in weapon grade uranium output while urging Congress to match the move against the Soviets. In a brief State of the Union delivered to a joint session, he framed a broad agenda to tackle poverty, education, health, retraining, and handicapped programs, insisting the defense needs stay intact. He noted a plan to set aside about 1 billion for the antin program with 20 million in fiscal 1965 and spoke with Byrd and Mills on the proposals, while pressuring for swift legislative action.
Washington AP reports Republicans seek a united path to the November contest avoiding a bitter split. Erie State Police said no charges will be filed against Paul H. Thomas after his auto struck 14 year old Robert Brozewicz of Wattsburg, killing him on Route 8 near Erie. Coroner Merle Wood ruled the death accidental. Kathleen Allgeier, 16, walking with Brozewicz on the berm, suffered a minor arm bruise. The driver Thomas was attempting to pass another northbound car driven by Frank Robasky when the fatal collision occurred about 40 minutes before sunrise.
Actor Steve Cochrane intends a six month cruise from Los Angeles aboard his 40 foot schooner the Rogue voyaging to the Bahamas. He will be aided by one man and four women including cousin Billie Hosé. He plans to sail after finalizing a divorce from Heddy Janna Jensen who has returned to Denmark.
Six Corry Area High School students were honored for musical and scholastic achievements, plus two CAHS graduates praised by The Pennsylvania State University. John Bliley became the first CAHS musician chosen to tour Europe with School Bands of America. James Bennink earned a $25 check toward his Star Farmer bid at the State Farm Show in Harrisburg after winning the Keystone Farmar competition.

A saboteur is believed to have set a fire that destroyed 200,000 gallons of gasoline at a Viet Nam fuel dump near Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta. The fire was controlled after three hours with no damage reported outside the dump.
