California officials exploit loophole to collect pension and salary
Seven California county officials including five sheriffs retire briefly to trigger dual pay. They return to office today, drawing both a monthly pension and salary totaling about 46,800 dollars for the year. State pension officials say the moves are legal but unintentional by legislators. Reaction includes bills to close the loophole and a remark from Governor Reagan questioning the practice. News of Davenport sparked similar retirements among others.
