Eberharter Omitted in Judge Nomination Lineup
Washington observers speculated that Rep. Eberharter may not be renominated for a federal judgeship. The American Bar Association had deemed him unfit last year, and his name was omitted from the Senate nomination list sent by President Truman. Eberharter declined to comment and suggested he might take the issue to the White House. Senator Myers had originally recommended his nomination for a Western Pennsylvania vacancy following Judge Gibson's retirement.

Temporary versus permanent federal expenditures
Two economists testified before a Congressional subcommittee on the distinction between permanent and temporary federal obligations. They noted that most emergency spending becomes nonrecurrent, and reporters observed few clearly temporary items aside from war.
