J James Ashton head of Delaware safety council said the new year opened with six highway fatalities, the first time in 30 years for such a shockingly high start. The six deaths occurred during a long holiday period from 6 p m Thursday to midnight.
Mr and Mrs John Gurry and their three children were burned today in a fire at their one story frame home on Erie's east side. Curry 37 helped his three children from the home. Two passersby entered the burning building and helped Mrs Curry 48 to safety. The children Judith 16 Richard 6 and James 4 were taken to Hamot Hospital. Firemen estimated damage at 510000 but the cause of the blaze had not been determined.
Pvt. Pran ly Brennan, 18, of Scranton Pennsylvania, died at the scene after a vehicle struck a utility pole during a holiday visit. One fellow Marine was seriously injured. Firefighters freed Brennan’s body after about 15 minutes of work.

Four car wreck on Route 66 about 0.2 miles north of Greensburg yesterday killed a woman and injured two other occupants. The deceased was Evelyn Roscher, 38, of Jeannette, who was riding as a passenger in a car driven by her husband John L. Roscher, 33.
